Dairy Safety Crackdown Intensifies in Punjab
Zero Tolerance on Adulteration Food Safety teams conducts surprise dairy checks, takes 8 samples Food Safety teams collect milk, cheese samples; Warning against adulteration

Indian health authorities ramp up inspections and milk testing campaigns as concerns over dairy adulteration and food safety continue to grow across the sector.

Food safety authorities in Punjab have intensified surprise inspections at dairies in Ferozepur, collecting multiple milk and paneer samples as part of a broader campaign aimed at strengthening dairy quality control and consumer protection. The inspections were conducted under directives from state food safety officials, reflecting increasing regulatory scrutiny across India’s dairy supply chain.

The inspection drive was led by District Health Officer Dr. Amarveer Sidhu, alongside a dedicated Food Safety team that collected eight samples from local dairy businesses. Officials confirmed the samples were sealed in the presence of witnesses before being sent to a state laboratory for detailed testing, reinforcing transparency in the food safety process.

According to Civil Surgeon Dr. Meenakshi, the state government has adopted a zero-tolerance approach toward food adulteration, with public health remaining the top priority. Authorities warned dairy operators that strict legal action could follow if laboratory results reveal non-compliance with prescribed food safety standards.

The latest operation follows earlier enforcement activities carried out in May, when additional milk samples were collected through early-morning checkpoints under the “Zero Tolerance Against Adulteration” initiative. Officials indicated that ongoing surveillance, unannounced inspections, and product sampling would continue in an effort to deter malpractice in the dairy sector.

Health experts involved in the campaign stressed that adulterated dairy products can pose serious risks, including food poisoning, stomach infections, liver damage, and long-term health complications. Vulnerable populations such as children, elderly consumers, and individuals with weakened immune systems were identified as particularly at risk, prompting authorities to encourage public reporting of suspected dairy adulteration cases.
