Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian distributes appointment letters in Chandigarh, raising total departmental hiring since 2022 to 98 personnel.
Punjab Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian formally handed over government appointment letters to 23 newly inducted personnel within the Punjab Dairy Development Department during an official ceremony in Chandigarh. The latest onboarding cohort comprises 20 support staff (sewadars) and three custodial personnel (sweeper-cum-chowkidars), bringing total cumulative recruitment within the Dairy Development Department to 98 positions since 2022. Addressing the newly appointed staff, Khudian emphasized that the induction forms part of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led state administration’s broader public employment initiative, which has filled more than 70,000 government positions across Punjab over the past four years.
From an institutional staffing and operational capacity perspective, the 98 personnel inducted into the Dairy Development Department since 2022 span critical technical, analytical, and administrative cadres. According to departmental figures released by the ministry, the cumulative hiring breakdown includes 56 Dairy Development Inspectors (Grade-II), seven administrative clerks, three information technology (IT) clerks, five stenotypists, two assistant chemists, two commercial drivers, 20 sewadars, and three custodial staff. Deploying 56 Grade-II Dairy Development Inspectors alongside specialized laboratory assistant chemists and IT personnel directly reinforces the department’s field extension network, regional training centers, and raw milk testing laboratories across Punjab’s rural milk sheds.
In terms of dairy sector modernization and quality assurance, strengthening frontline technical staffing is vital to supporting one of India’s highest per-capita milk-producing states. Dairy Development Inspectors serve as the primary operational bridge between state agricultural policies and grassroots livestock farmers, overseeing breed improvement initiatives, silage and fodder conservation trials, and subsidized cattle shed mechanization schemes. Concurrently, staffing departmental laboratories with qualified assistant chemists enhances the state’s capacity to conduct routine compositional audits on milk fat and solids-not-fat (SNF) levels while screening rural procurement corridors for chemical adulterants. Filling administrative and support vacancies ensures that regional dairy training centers can execute farmer skill-development workshops without bureaucratic bottlenecks.
From a public finance and rural economy standpoint, expanding the institutional workforce of the Dairy Development Department aligns with Punjab’s strategic push to diversify agricultural incomes away from water-intensive paddy-wheat crop rotations. As groundwater depletion and stagnant grain margins pressure traditional arable farming across the Indo-Gangetic plain, the state government has prioritized commercial dairy farming as a high-liquidity auxiliary enterprise. Fully staffed district dairy offices expedite the processing of capital subsidies, credit linkages, and livestock insurance claims, helping smallholder and commercial dairy operators secure financing for automated milking parlors, bulk milk coolers, and high-genetic-merit Murrah buffaloes and crossbred cows.
At the farmgate level, having accessible extension officers, laboratory technicians, and fully operational support staff translates directly into improved herd productivity and stronger milk check realizations for Punjab’s dairy producers. When state extension centers operate at full staffing capacity, rural youth and progressive farmers gain timely access to scientific ration balancing, mastitis control protocols, and value-added processing training. Urging the newly inducted employees to discharge their duties with transparency and dedication to public welfare, Khudian noted that strengthening departmental service delivery will remain central to expanding Punjab’s organized dairy supply chain and boosting rural household earnings heading into 2027.
