Five women-led milk producer companies under UPSRLM collect 12.5 lakh litres daily across 31 districts, empowering 3.88 lakh rural shareholders.
Rural women across Uttar Pradesh are transforming the state’s dairy landscape through an organized corporate cooperative model that has generated a combined business turnover of ₹5,716.26 crore since 2019. Established under women’s self-help groups associated with the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission (UPSRLM), five dedicated women-led Milk Producer Companies (MPCs) have moved smallholder women beyond traditional savings groups into full-fledged agribusiness ownership and enterprise management.
The network has achieved substantial operational scale, directly connecting more than 3.88 lakh women shareholders across 6,603 villages spanning 31 districts. Supported by an organized procurement infrastructure, these women-led enterprises now collect approximately 12.5 lakh (1.25 million) litres of raw milk daily, providing members with guaranteed local market access, transparent digital testing, and direct-to-bank remunerative milk payments.
The corporate network comprises five specialized producer companies distributed strategically across major agricultural regions: Balini Milk Producer Company, Kashi Milk Producer Company, Samarthya Milk Producer Company, Shri Baba Gorakhnath Kripa Milk Producer Company, and Srijani Milk Producer Company. Operating across major milk belts—including Bundelkhand, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Bareilly, and central UP—these companies manage end-to-end operations spanning milk aggregation, bulk cooling, veterinary services, and commercial distribution.
According to UPSRLM Director Arun Kumar, integrating rural women directly into company governance and commercial supply chains is delivering profound socio-economic impacts. Livestock management—historically treated as unpaid household labor—has been structured into a formal, recurring income generator that significantly mitigates rural distress migration by creating viable, locally rooted entrepreneurial opportunities.
The expansion of these women-owned dairy enterprises aligns directly with Uttar Pradesh’s broader developmental push toward building a one-trillion-dollar state economy. By capturing greater value from milk solids and reinvesting operating surpluses into rural households, the ₹5,716 crore network is enhancing grassroots purchasing power, fostering micro-enterprise development, and establishing a scalable blueprint for gender-led rural industrialization.
