Punjab dairy producers dumped milk outside a government office, demanding tougher action against counterfeit dairy products hurting farm incomes.

Dairy farmers in Amritsar staged a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office, pouring milk onto the streets to highlight growing frustration over the open sale of allegedly fake dairy products. Farmers argued that counterfeit and adulterated milk items are damaging consumer trust and reducing demand for genuine dairy products produced by local farms.

Protesters claimed that imitation dairy goods are being sold widely in markets without sufficient regulatory enforcement, creating unfair competition for legitimate milk producers. Farmer groups said the unchecked trade is putting additional financial pressure on dairy operations already coping with rising feed, labour, and production costs.

According to the demonstrators, the spread of fake dairy products not only affects farm profitability but also raises concerns about food safety and product quality. Farmers urged authorities to intensify inspections, strengthen testing systems, and take stricter legal action against manufacturers and distributors involved in adulteration practices.

The protest reflects broader challenges facing India’s dairy sector, where maintaining consumer confidence remains critical as the market expands. Industry stakeholders have increasingly warned that counterfeit dairy products can undermine organized milk supply chains and weaken returns for producers investing in quality milk production.

Farm leaders said immediate government intervention is needed to protect both dairy consumers and farmers. They stressed that stronger enforcement and transparent monitoring mechanisms are essential to preserve the integrity of the dairy industry and ensure fair market conditions for authentic milk suppliers.
