India currently produces about a quarter of the world’s milk, making dairy a critical pillar of rural livelihoods and national food security. Millions of small and marginal farmers depend on dairy farming as a steady source of income, making improvements in data systems and digital infrastructure particularly important for the sector’s long-term development.

To strengthen the value chain, several integrated digital tools are being deployed. These include platforms such as the National Dairy Livestock Mission systems, Automatic Milk Collection Systems (AMCS), dairy enterprise resource planning tools and digital information networks that track animals, milk flows and farm operations.

The goal of these technologies is to create a more transparent and efficient dairy ecosystem. By connecting farmers, cooperatives and processors through digital systems, the sector can improve productivity, optimize milk procurement routes and enhance traceability across the supply chain.
