Karnataka Milk Federation reinforces quality supremacy by securing primary supplier status for the iconic Tirupati Laddu Prasadam.
The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), marketed under the Nandini brand, has solidified its reputation as a leading dairy cooperative in India by achieving a remarkable milestone: supplying a record 5,000 metric tonnes (MT) of its popular Nandini Ghee to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) over the past year. This monumental volume of high-purity ghee is indispensable for preparing the globally recognized Tirupati Laddu prasadam, demonstrating the deep integration of regional agribusiness with major cultural and institutional demands. This achievement is particularly significant given the KMF’s journey to becoming TTD’s preferred supplier. In previous years, Nandini Ghee had faced rejection from the TTD. The subsequent and sustained commitment to consistent quality and purity, however, has driven a major turnaround, leading TTD to make the switch. This decision reflects an increasing faith in the quality standards of Karnataka’s cooperative dairy sector and its robust capacity to fulfill vast, recurring institutional requirements.
The sheer scale of the operation underscores KMF’s advanced dairy supply chain capabilities. KMF Managing Director Shivaswamy confirmed that the supply to Tirumala commenced in December 2024, and the 5,000 MT figure represents a 30% growth over the previous year. KMF secured this massive contract through competitive tenders, a testament to their ability to maintain freshness and purity under large–volume demand.
The demand shows no sign of slowing. Shivaswamy noted that the federation has already supplied 4,281 MT of ghee in the current year alone. Furthermore, TTD has issued a fresh tender for another 2,000 MT of ghee for the next six months, a challenge that KMF is fully prepared to meet. The sustained high demand for Nandini Pure Cow Ghee underscores the strong consumer faith in both the prasadam itself and the quality assurance provided by Karnataka’s dairy produce.
Ultimately, this accomplishment is more than just a procurement contract; it is a major victory for the Karnataka cooperative model. By becoming the primary supplier to one of the world’s busiest temple trusts, KMF significantly enhances the national and international visibility of Nandini products. This feat not only strengthens the state’s image as a reliable source of high–quality dairy ingredients but also validates its rigorous logistical and quality control measures for Value–Added Products (VAP).
