IDMC Limited enters the global market with a fully automated, 10 LLPD dairy processing plant for Freshways in Birmingham, UK.
India's IDMC Launches Massive 10 LLPD Dairy Plant in UK

A fully automated facility set up for Freshways in Birmingham marks a major engineering milestone for India’s global dairy tech sector.

India’s presence in the global dairy technology landscape has hit an unprecedented peak following the successful inauguration of a state-of-the-art processing facility in Europe. On July 9, 2026, Dr. Meenesh Shah, Chairman of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and IDMC Limited, officially opened a fully automated 10 LLPD (Lakh Litres Per Day) dairy processing plant for Freshways in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Designed and executed by NDDB’s wholly-owned engineering subsidiary, IDMC Limited, the turnkey project represents a massive leap forward in international trade relations and cross-border agribusiness infrastructure.

During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Dr. Shah expressed profound gratitude to the leadership at Freshways for entrusting this landmark project to Indian engineering teams. He traced IDMC’s historical trajectory, highlighting how an organization originally conceived to eliminate India’s reliance on foreign dairy equipment imports has successfully matured into an elite global manufacturer of world-class processing solutions. Shah described the new Birmingham facility as a historic milestone, acting as IDMC’s very first complete processing plant constructed outside Indian borders while validating the broader industrial visions of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat.

Reflecting on the competitive dynamics of international dairy tech engineering, Shri Rajkumar Malik, Managing Director of IDMC Limited, emphasized that taking an automated plant from initial concept to final commissioning in a highly regulated market like the UK positions the firm among the global elite. Malik noted that this landmark achievement creates immediate momentum to secure future technical partnerships with diverse international dairy brands looking to modernize their processing streams. Shri Bali Nijjar, Managing Director of Freshways, strongly commended IDMC’s technical precision, executing the installation with world-class professionalism.

The foundation for this engineering milestone dates back to May 2024, when Freshways issued a first-of-its-kind, large-scale export order to IDMC Limited. The extensive contractual scope required the Indian engineering firm to oversee every stage of development, including custom design architecture, factory manufacturing, equipment supply, and the direct supervision of physical installation and system commissioning. This vertical integration allowed the teams to maintain strict quality controls, satisfying rigorous European operational standards and clearing a definitive path for future international market entry.

Technically, the automated Birmingham operation boasts an array of advanced processing systems designed to optimize fluid handling and shelf-life metrics. The facility integrates high-efficiency milk tanker reception and dispatch infrastructure, complex milk and cream processing lines, and massive skirt-mounted milk storage silos boasting a capacity of 1.25 lakh litres each. Furthermore, the installation features automated Clean-in-Place (CIP) architectures, product recovery systems, pneumatic valves, precise fluid pumps, plate heat exchangers (PHE), and advanced sterile air flushing lines to reliably safeguard the extended shelf life of finished products.
