Amul Named World’s Strongest Dairy Brand in 2026, Outpacing Yili, Vinamilk, and Valio
Amul has been named the world’s strongest dairy brand

Indian cooperative tops Brand Finance strength index with a 93/100 score and AAA+ rating, while China’s Yili retains financial brand value crown at $14.5B.

Indian dairy cooperative giant Amul has been recognized as the world’s strongest dairy brand in Brand Finance’s Food & Drinks 2026 report, surpassing leading multinational players across key consumer perception metrics. Scoring 93 out of 100 on the Brand Strength Index (BSI) with an elite AAA+ rating, the Gujarat-headquartered cooperative took the global top spot ahead of Vietnam’s Vinamilk (89.6), Finland’s Valio (88.3), and Chinese conglomerates Mengniu (87.2) and Yili (85.0).

The Brand Strength Index measures intangible brand equity and commercial influence, factoring in marketing investment, stakeholder equity, consumer familiarity, brand reputation, and direct pricing influence over household purchasing decisions. Analysts noted that Amul’s dominance reflects its deeply entrenched consumer trust, extensive national distribution network across India, and aggressive portfolio diversification, supported by nearly 100 recent product launches and expanding international exports into the United States.

The benchmark report establishes a clear structural distinction between consumer-facing brand strength and pure financial brand valuation. While Amul captured the brand-strength title, China’s Yili Group retained its position as the world’s most valuable dairy brand in monetary terms, with its brand valuation jumping 29 percent year-over-year to $14.5 billion. Yili’s financial scale continues to be driven by large-scale domestic distribution across liquid milk, premium yogurt, functional infant formula, and sports nutrition.

On the financial value leaderboard, Danone secured second place with a valuation of $8.2 billion, followed by Mengniu at $6.0 billion, while Amul placed fourth globally with its financial brand value climbing 22 percent to reach $5.0 billion. Meanwhile, Denmark-based European cooperative Arla recorded the fastest growth among the top ten most valuable dairy brands, expanding its brand valuation by 39 percent to $3.4 billion amid strong European demand for dairy staples and functional ingredients.

Industry observers emphasize that Amul’s global triumph showcases the competitive viability of the cooperative agribusiness model on the international stage. By translating smallholder farmer ownership into immense consumer goodwill, everyday retail affordability, and consistent quality, Amul demonstrates that cooperative dairy systems can build stronger brand equity and customer loyalty than heavily capitalized corporate competitors.
