Outlook Business highlights how Jaipur startup FruBon built a ₹200+ crore dairy and ice cream brand on cold-chain control and farmer trust.
Entrepreneurial Growth Father and Sons Build Jaipur Startup FruBon into ₹300 Crore Dairy Contender

A banker, an engineer, and a dairy technologist combine forces to build a fast-growing Indian ice cream and dairy brand rooted in cold-chain control and direct farmer relationships.

Reporting by Bunty Thoidingjam for Outlook Business details the growth story of FruBon, a Jaipur-based dairy and ice cream startup founded by former international banker Rahul Verma, his engineer brother Rohit, and their father DD Verma, a dairy technologist trained at the National Dairy Research Institute. Having originally established Dev Milk Foods in 2004 as a milk transportation enterprise, the family pivoted in 2015 to create FruBon, aiming to deliver high-quality, transparently sourced dairy products to consumers across regional and small-town India.

Operating from a specialized manufacturing facility in Mahindra World City on the outskirts of Jaipur, FruBon procures approximately 90,000 liters of milk daily through 55 collection centers linked to more than 9,000 farmer families. The startup has built deep supplier goodwill by executing 100% digital, on-time payments—even during COVID-19 lockdowns—while offering community support initiatives, including cattle feed supply, vaccination drives, and financial literacy workshops for local women.

End-to-end cold-chain management serves as the cornerstone of FruBon’s operational resilience. By maintaining strict oversight across raw milk procurement, processing, and temperature-controlled distribution, the company minimizes spoilage and safeguards product quality. This supply chain discipline has enabled FruBon to expand its share of India’s organized ice cream market from 2–3% during the pandemic to nearly 14%.

To stand out against legacy dairy giants, FruBon focuses on distinctive regional flavor profiles and artisanal product categories. Alongside popular ice cream tubs featuring flavors such as rose-gulkand, paan, kesar-kulfi, litchi faluda, and chilli guava, the brand has successfully commercialized niche offerings, including traditional bilona-churned butter and makkhan mishri, an offering traditionally sold near Krishna temples.

Accelerated by rapid expansion across quick-commerce platforms—where monthly dairy and ice cream sales now exceed ₹8.5 crore combined—FruBon closed the last financial year with revenue exceeding ₹200 crore and is targeting ₹300 crore in the current fiscal year. FruBon’s trajectory demonstrates how combining technical expertise, cold-chain rigor, and localized product innovation can capture substantial market share in India’s evolving dairy landscape.
