Karnataka dairy cooperative invites architectural and technical partners to support ice-cream production infrastructure expansion.

The Karnataka Co-operative Milk Producers’ Federation (KMF) — the apex dairy cooperative behind the Nandini brand — has issued a new tender seeking consultants and architects to support its planned ice-cream facility project. This move signals renewed capital development in value-added dairy processing infrastructure in southern India, where KMF is a major player in milk procurement and product marketing.

The tender, announced on 9 February 2026, aims to appoint qualified consultants to provide design, planning and oversight services for the civil and structural elements of the ice-cream plant, helping shape the facility’s technical and architectural blueprint. By empanelling consultancy expertise early, KMF is prioritising a strong foundation for efficient production engineering and compliance with building norms.

This development fits within a broader pattern of dairy federations expanding into higher-value products, including ice cream and other dairy derivatives — segments with potentially higher margins than liquid milk alone. KMF’s interest in professional consultancy suggests a strategic push to elevate processing capabilities, optimise plant layout, and improve operational performance at the proposed site.

Ice-cream production has been a notable part of KMF’s portfolio; earlier reports show the federation supplies thousands of litres of ice cream daily to partners such as Amul’s marketing federation (GCMMF), and manufactures a wide variety of frozen dairy products across multiple plants in Karnataka. These existing commercial linkages underscore the importance of expanding infrastructure to meet sustained demand.

For dairy analysts and processed product manufacturers, the consultant tender provides a window into how major cooperatives are investing in capital projects to diversify revenue streams and strengthen branded product supply chains. As KMF advances this plant’s development, the federation is also tapping into India’s growing consumer demand for premium and value-added dairy products.
