China’s NCTID debuts on the global stage, winning “Oscars” for sustainability and specialized human nutrition dairy products.

The National Center of Technology Innovation for Dairy (NCTID), spearheaded by Yili Group, made a significant splash at the highly anticipated 2025 IDF World Dairy Summit held in Santiago, Chile. The center’s debut on this global platform serves as a powerful barometer for the future direction of the dairy industry, showcasing China’s growing influence in advanced dairy science and sustainability. Liu Chunxi, Chairman of NCTID and Senior Executive President of Yili, participated actively in discussions focused on the industry’s sustainable evolution, underscoring the commitment to global progress.

NCTID’s technological achievements were officially recognized at the prestigious IDF Dairy Innovation Awards, often referred to as the “Oscars” of the dairy sector due to their rigorous professional scope. The center secured a major win for its “For a Bluer Ocean” Limited-Edition Eco-Packaging, part of the AMBPOMIAL brand. This award specifically honored Innovation in Packaging and Transparency for Dairy Products, highlighting the pioneering use of alkali-washable ink technology to boost the purity and recovery rates of recycled materials for a greener future.

Beyond environmental stewardship, NCTID also achieved recognition for human health solutions. Yili’s Xinhuo Bone Energy Formula Milk Powder received the Innovation in Dairy Products for Human Nutrition award. This specialized product is built upon an integrated bone–joint–muscle nutrition strategy informed by traditional Oriental dietary principles. The formula strategically combines high-quality protein, colostrum basic protein (CBP), vitamins, and unique ingredients like sodium hyaluronate and Eucommia leaf powder to support healthy aging.

Dr. Ignatius Szeto, Executive Director of Nutrition and Health Research Center at NCTID, further amplified the center’s research by delivering a keynote on “The Role of Dairy Consumption in Healthy Aging.” His presentation underscored the multiple, indispensable benefits of dairy products—rich in high-quality protein and essential vitamins—in improving adult nutritional adequacy and contributing to the reduction of age-related health conditions. This research provides vital, practical evidence to address the significant global challenge of an aging population.

Finally, the NCTID showcased a range of broader innovations that reflect its comprehensive capabilities in dairy technology. These included a sophisticated digital traceability system for microbial risk management in dairy products, alongside a research project that highlighted the protective role of fermented dairy in mitigating alcohol-related liver stress. Moving forward, the center plans to deepen its industry-academia-research collaboration to promote the commercialization of these outcomes, offering “Chinese wisdom and strength” to drive industrial upgrading and dairy sustainability globally.
