National Dairy Board marks Diamond Jubilee, honoring Punjab‘s Verka and setting the course for future farmer prosperity.
The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), the foundational institution behind India’s transformative “White Revolution,” recently celebrated its Diamond Jubilee with a grand national event in New Delhi. Established in 1965, the NDDB has spent six decades actively organizing dairy producers, driving up milk production, and ensuring the delivery of nutritious milk to consumers. The event served as both a reflection on past achievements and a powerful platform for setting the future trajectory of the nation’s agribusiness. Recognizing its national importance, Parliament conferred the status of an institution of national significance upon the NDDB in 1987. The Diamond Jubilee celebration brought together directors, managers, and representatives from dairy cooperatives across the country. Notably, the Verka (Milkfed) team from Punjab attended as special invitees, led by Milkfed Punjab Chairman Narinder Singh Shergill.
During the proceedings, NDDB Chairman Dr. Minesh Shah presented a special award to the leaders of the Ferozepur Milk Union—Director and Chairman Gurbhej Singh Tibbi and General Manager Sugyan Prasad Singh—in recognition of their “outstanding contribution and leadership.” This highlighted the importance of strong, regional cooperative leadership in advancing the national dairy mission.
Commending the Verka team, Chairman Shergill underscored Punjab‘s pioneering role in the White Revolution. He stressed that Verka has “created a new history for rural Punjab“ by successfully organizing farmers, boosting their milk production, and guaranteeing stable incomes. He further noted that the state’s dairy cooperatives are providing a “fresh direction” to the overall agricultural sector, emphasizing the positive ripple effect on regional agribusiness viability.
Looking forward, the NDDB celebration was future-focused, urging all participating dairy institutions to strengthen their operations. The Board specifically called upon cooperatives across northern India to adopt innovative technology, enhance overall milk production efficiency, and secure a stable income for future generations of dairy producers. This reaffirmation solidifies the sector’s vital role in farmer welfare, consumer safety, and the nation’s nutritional self-reliance.
