Jaipur-based entrepreneurs combine indigenous genetics, traditional bilona processing, and freeze-drying technology to build direct-to-consumer brand.
Jaipur-based engineers Vibhor Jain and Ishita Jain have turned a pilot venture with 20 indigenous Gir cows into a diversified dairy business valued at approximately ₹2 crore. Applying their engineering problem-solving and structured project planning to agricultural entrepreneurship, the duo established an integrated livestock enterprise centered on high-value processing. The commercial trajectory demonstrates how technological expertise and business discipline can transform small-scale pastoral operations into viable, scalable agribusiness models in rural and semi-urban corridors.
The enterprise strategically bypassed commoditized raw milk supply chains to focus on high-margin, value-added traditional dairy formulations. Rather than selling liquid milk at volatile wholesale prices, the founders focused on traditional bilona ghee—crafted by hand-churning cultured curd—and specialized cultured derivatives. By building an authentic direct-to-consumer (D2C) brand narrative anchored in the nutritional properties of A2 beta-casein from indigenous cattle, the company captures premium retail spreads that insulate operating margins from seasonal farmgate price fluctuations.
To address the shelf-life constraints and cold-chain bottlenecks typical of fresh dairy distribution, the couple invested ₹30 lakh in specialized freeze-drying equipment. This advanced processing technology enables the dehydration of liquid and cultured milk solids at low temperatures, preserving sensitive nutritional compounds, native enzymes, and volatile flavor profiles while eliminating the need for artificial preservatives. The technical leap allows the venture to manufacture shelf-stable, ambient-temperature consumer formats, drastically lowering transit spoilage and expanding fulfillment reach into national retail networks.
The success of the venture underscores the commercial viability of indigenous cattle breeds when paired with targeted breeding and premium product positioning. While exotic crossbred dairy cattle generally produce higher daily liquid milk volumes, indigenous Gir cows provide heat tolerance, disease resistance, and milk compositions ideally suited for specialized cultured and clarified butter processing. Managing smaller, high-component herds under structured management practices enables boutique dairy operators to achieve high revenue per cow without the intensive veterinary overhead often required by non-native breeds.
The venture highlights an emerging model for Indian agricultural industrialization, where professional talent returns to primary production to build vertically integrated enterprises. By combining pedigree livestock stewardship, advanced food processing, and modern brand marketing, the founders demonstrate that sustainable farmgate profitability is achieved through value addition rather than raw volume. As consumer demand for functional, traceable dairy foods accelerates, technical entrepreneurship provides a viable blueprint for modernizing India’s traditional livestock sector.
