A primary demand tabled by the association is the immediate rollout of comprehensive, year-round vaccination schedules to protect herds against prevalent communicable and metabolic diseases. The association highlighted that recurring outbreaks—including Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD), mastitis, milk fever, ketosis, brucellosis, bovine tuberculosis (TB), and bloat—cause severe economic disruption by depressing milk yields, compromising lactation cycles, and driving up animal mortality across cows, buffaloes, sheep, goats, oxen, and young calves.

To counteract surging operational expenditures, the JKDFA urged the government to introduce targeted financial subsidies for purchasing commercial cattle feed, dry fodder, and silage. Association leaders emphasized that escalating fodder costs and regional forage deficits place severe pressure on smallholder farm margins, making direct input support essential to sustain dairy operations and maintain steady milk production.

The association also called for rigorous market regulation to protect consumer health and authentic dairy producers from substandard competition. The JKDFA urged authorities to establish dedicated veterinary and food safety diagnostic task forces to conduct surprise on-site inspections across processing units and wholesale channels, ensuring strict compliance with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) quality baselines.
