Jammu & Kashmir authorities issue a prohibition order against a Talangam facility after an inspection reveals major violations of Schedule IV food safety standards.
Reporting by Kashmir Life details enforcement action taken by the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) of Jammu and Kashmir, which prohibited the manufacture and sale of milk and dairy products at a processing facility in the Talangam area of Pulwama district. The closure order was issued after an official inspection uncovered serious lapses in hygiene and sanitation that posed a direct risk to public health.
The regulatory action followed an on-site evaluation conducted by the Food Safety Officer from Pampore at the facility operated by local entrepreneur Suhail Maqbool. Inspectors documented that the plant was operating under unsanitary conditions, failing to satisfy the mandatory hygiene and sanitary requirements prescribed under Schedule IV of the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011.
Based on the inspection findings, the Designated Officer for Food Safety issued an immediate prohibition order stopping all processing and distribution activities at the unit. The owner was explicitly directed not to resume operations until all identified sanitary deficiencies are rectified and the facility fully complies with the statutory provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
The shutdown reflects a broader, intensified drive by J&K’s FDA targeting high-risk food commodities, particularly perishable dairy and sweet manufacturing units. Over recent weeks, regulatory teams across south Kashmir have executed multiple raids, suspended licenses, and closed substandard processing units to eliminate chemical adulteration and improper handling practices across the regional supply chain.
To reinforce monitoring efforts, the FDA appealed to consumers for public assistance, encouraging citizens to report suspected cases of adulterated, unsafe, or unhygienic food through its toll-free helpline (104) or official email channel. The administration reiterated that strict compliance checks will continue across all districts to safeguard public health and restore confidence in local food products.
