Milma's Global Leap Indian Dairy Invades Australia, NZ Shelves

The Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (Milma) inks a tripartite MoU with RG Foods and Midnightsun Global to execute product export to the highly competitive Australia and New Zealand markets.

The Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (KCMMF), operating under the established Milma brand, has formalized a significant step in its strategy for expanding its global footprint. The cooperative signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two strategic partners, RG Foods and Midnightsun Global, specifically targeting the highly competitive markets of Australia and New Zealand. This landmark agreement, signed in the presence of Milma chairman K S Mani, marks a major move to expand the cooperative’s overseas market reach.

As the manufacturer, the KCMMF (Milma) will serve as the source for the dairy products being exported. The MoU was executed by Milma managing director Asif K Yusuf and the respective executives from the partnering firms. This development underscores the cooperative’s commitment to capitalizing on international demand and leveraging the established reputation of the Milma brand beyond its domestic market, showcasing the export potential of Indian-origin dairy.

The critical logistical functions for the export operation fall entirely to RG Foods, led by executive director Vishnu G. Under the terms of the MoU, RG Foods is tasked with a comprehensive suite of supply chain responsibilities. These include arranging the pick-up of Milma products from KCMMF premises, managing all complex logistics such as transportation, customs clearance, and freight forwarding, and critically, ensuring full compliance with the demanding import laws and regulations of both Australia and New Zealand.

The third party in the agreement, Midnightsun Global, represented by proprietor Bindu Ganesh Kumar, will function as a coordinating partner. Their defined role is focused on the facilitation and operational execution across the various stages of the export process. Notably, the agreement specifies that Midnightsun Global will operate without retaining any ownership rights over the Milma products, clearly delineating responsibilities within the specialized distribution chain.

Ultimately, this tripartite pact is designed to fast-track Milma’s entry into the Antipodean markets, signaling confidence in the product quality and the operational capability to manage intricate international export requirements. For the international dairy community, this deal represents a growing trend of Indian dairy cooperatives actively seeking to diversify revenue streams by entering lucrative, high-standards markets like Australia and New Zealand, which are otherwise significant global dairy exporters themselves.
