Adulterated milk that can endanger lives is finding its way to Kerala with Milma increasing the price of milk in the state.
Adulterated milk continues to enter Kerala from other states

This is the milk that is cheaply shipped by tankers from other states. The outside world came to know about the adulteration of milk again when 15,300 litres of hydrogen peroxide-laced milk brought from Vadiyur village in Tamil Nadu was seized by Dairy Development Department officials at Aryankavu check post in Kollam yesterday. The adulteration was found in milk delivered to a private company in Pandalam. According to the test, hydrogen peroxide was used to keep the milk from spoiling for an extended period of time.

Adulteration of milk is not an occasional occurrence. The reason this goes undetected is the lack of proper tests. Once an incident is reported, adulterated milk does not cross the border for some time. With that, the tests will also stop. Following this, adulterated milk will once again start flowing into the state. Hundreds of tankers cross the Kerala border through various check posts every day.

Last August, 12,750 litres of urea-mixed milk was seized at the Meenakshipuram check post while being transported from Tamil Nadu to Kerala. The milk was brought from Krishnagiri.

Lack of testing

At present, only the checkpoints at Meenakshipuram, Parassala, and Aryankavu have a system to monitor milk quality. It is necessary to implement the system at further checkpoints, including Walayar.
