Authorities intercept 316kg of suspect mawa and milk cake at Bhopal transit hubs as suppliers divert stock following Maharashtra crackdown.

The Madhya Pradesh Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has intensified surveillance and enforcement checks on interstate consignments of milk products entering the state from neighbouring regions, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Rajasthan. The heightened vigilance comes in response to reports that suppliers of synthetic and substandard dairy sweets—primarily mawa (khoya) and milk cake—are redirecting compromised inventory into Madhya Pradesh following aggressive regulatory crackdowns by food safety authorities in Maharashtra.

During a targeted inspection drive at key transit hubs in Bhopal, including the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) and Nadra Bus Stand, FDA enforcement teams intercepted and seized 316 kilograms of suspected adulterated milk products valued at approximately ₹78,000. The seized consignments included 150 kg of mawa (estimated market value of ₹45,000) consigned to Arihant Dairy, and 166 kg of milk cake (estimated market value of ₹33,000) booked under Lovely Sweets in Bhopal’s Sabzi Mandi.

FDA Chief Food Safety Officer Shivraj Pawak confirmed that the seized stock was being transported interstate via bus cargo from Nagpur, Maharashtra, into Bhopal. Citing serious concerns regarding product quality, composition, and potential chemical adulteration, authorities confiscated the shipments on-site and collected statutory samples for comprehensive laboratory testing under the Food Safety and Standards Act.

The timing of the enforcement surge is critical as regional demand for milk solids and traditional sweets spikes during the festival period. Unscrupulous traders frequently exploit festive demand surges by manufacturing synthetic dairy products using starch, detergent, refined vegetable oils, and chemical neutralizers to undercut pure milk prices and maximize tradeLa noticia aborda la decisión de la Administración de Alimentos y Medicamentos (FDA) de la región de Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh, India) de intensificar las inspecciones y controles de calidad sobre los productos lácteos que ingresan desde estados vecinos (como Rayastán, Uttar Pradesh y Gujarat).
