The latest Global Dairy Trade (GDT) auction, corresponding to Event 396 held on January 20, 2026, delivered a positive outcome for the global dairy market.
The GDT Price Index increased by 1.5% compared with the previous event, reinforcing a firmer price trend at the start of the year.
The average weighted winning price reached USD 3,615 per metric ton, reflecting stronger buyer willingness amid relatively tight supply conditions. The auction consisted of 19 bidding rounds and lasted 2 hours and 12 minutes, indicating a competitive and sustained trading process throughout the event.
In terms of participation, the event attracted 164 registered bidders, with 114 winning bidders, highlighting active and well-distributed demand. Total volume sold reached 27,821 metric tons, positioning close to the lower end of available supply, which ranged from 27,999 to 35,056 metric tons.
From a market perspective, these results reinforce expectations of relative stability in international dairy prices, supported by demand that continues to absorb available supply without significant downward pressure. For exporting countries, GDT performance remains a key benchmark for anticipating short-term trends in contracts, export prices, and margins.
