India’s largest dairy co-op boosts farmer pay, expands procurement, and advances animal health in strong annual performance.
Amul Dairy, formally the Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd., reported a robust ₹14,099 crore annual turnover, marking a 9.2 % year-on-year increase at its 79th Annual General Meeting in Anand. The performance underscores sustained commercial momentum for one of India’s most influential dairy cooperatives, reinforcing its role in the rural and dairy economy.
The cooperative now works with over 700,000 milk producers, including more than 400,000 daily suppliers, and achieved an average daily milk procurement of 48.16 lakh kg. These volumes reflect stable upstream activity in milk production and collection and are central to Amul’s integrated supply chain model.
Farmer returns continued to improve: Amul Dairy increased the payment to producers to ₹1,028 per kg of milk fat, a 9.39 % uplift, and distributed over ₹2 crore in insurance benefits to the families of more than 98 milk suppliers. This focus on equitable producer compensation supports rural dairy livelihoods.
On the animal health and productivity front, the cooperative advanced animal husbandry practices with 10 lakh doses of sorted sex semen and recorded 618 high milk-yield calves from almost 3,900 embryo transfers. Its semen station earned an ‘A’ grade certification from the Government of India, while veterinary outreach reached nearly 7 lakh animals with digital cow belts deployed across herds.
Strategic operational expansion included extending milk procurement to new states — West Bengal, Maharashtra, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Tamil Nadu, and fledgling efforts in Karnataka and Odisha — alongside upgrades to processing infrastructure in Anand. These moves aim to scale supply, improve quality controls, and deepen Amul’s footprint in India’s diverse dairy market.
