Sikander Singh, a resident of Chaswal village in Punjab, exemplifies the power of rural entrepreneurship after transforming his financial situation from being over ₹6 lakh in debt to building a high-revenue dairy enterprise. With limited job opportunities and increasing financial pressure early in his career, Sikander strategically turned to cow farming, a sector deeply rooted in India’s agricultural economy. Sikander’s journey began with foundational training in modern dairy practices. After completing Class 12, he underwent training with Milkfed in 1999 and later refined his knowledge at Punjab Agriculture University (PAU). In the year 2000, he took out the pivotal ₹6 lakh loan to start his farm with just a few cows. Despite the challenges of the early years, including financial pressure and cattle care issues, his consistency paid off, and he successfully repaid the entire loan within four years.

The game-changer for the operation was the complete embracing of automation and smart technology, moving far beyond traditional farm management. Sikander’s modern dairy now runs a massive herd of 215 cows and produces an impressive 3,000 litres of milk every single day. The technology stack includes a sophisticated Israeli milking parlor system and an automatic milk packing system, all managed with highly hygienic cattle management techniques. This automation allows the entire large-scale farm to be managed efficiently by a lean team of only 10 workers.

A crucial factor in the farm’s success and high revenue of ₹4 crore annually is Sikander’s savvy, multi-tiered selling strategy. He manages to sell a substantial volume—1,500 litres—directly to consumers at a premium price of ₹60/litre. The remaining milk is then sold to established co-operative dairy brands, Amul and Verka, at a lower but stable rate of ₹44/litre. Furthermore, the farm diversifies its income by selling approximately 25 cows every year, which generates an additional income exceeding ₹20 lakh.

Sikander’s compelling success story has earned him significant recognition, including the prestigious Chief Minister’s Award 2025-26 from GADVASU University, Ludhiana.
