Congress stages protest against milk price hike in Vadodara

The Vadodara unit of the Congress party staged a protest at Baroda Dairy on Saturday, condemning the recent hike in milk prices. Demonstrators garlanded the premises with empty milk pouches as a symbolic gesture of protest.

Congress leaders submitted a memorandum to the managing director of Baroda Dairy, alleging that the dairy arbitrarily raised milk prices by Rs 2 per litre, despite no corresponding increase in fuel costs or cattle feed prices.

They argued that at a time when inflation is already putting pressure on household budgets — especially with the recent rise in LPG cylinder prices — the hike in milk prices would further burden the common people. The leaders demanded an immediate rollback of the price increase, stating, “The promise of ‘acche din’ has remained nothing more than a slogan from 2014 to 2025.”

Baroda Dairy officials, however, countered the criticism, saying it was peculiar that only the Vadodara unit of the Congress party had raised objections, even though milk prices have gone up nationwide.

They clarified that while consumer milk prices were increased by Rs 2 per litre effective May 1, the procurement price paid to milk suppliers was also raised — from Rs 800 to Rs 825 per kilo fat.
