The dairy’s board has come under attack from a group of BJP MLAs led by Savli BJP MLA Ketan Inamdar who has alleged that Baroda Dairy is paying much less price while buying milk from dairy farmers who are members of the milk union, as compared to other dairies in the state.
Countering the allegations, Baroda Dairy’s acting chairman G B Solanki said that as MLAs, representing people of Gujarat, the MLAs have power to make representation before the state government. “We also want that a proper policy is formulated by the Gujarat government so that uniform milk procurement prices are paid by all dairies of Gujarat and these unnecessary controversies don’t surface again,” Solanki said.
It is worth mentioning here that all the 18 dairy unions, who are members of the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), currently decide their own milk procurement prices that are paid to farmers.
Solanki also said that the board has already written to all its village-level milk societies, seeking their opinion on whether they want to bring a change in the current grading system through which milk prices are paid or if they seek to adopt a new grading system.
Meanwhile, Inamdar, who had last week issued an ultimatum to the dairy’s management on Sunday reiterated that he will stage a ‘dharna’ on Monday afternoon, if his demands are not addressed by then.
