BJP protests milk price hike

Members of BJP staged a demonstration in front of the deputy commissioner’s office here on Tuesday to protest the state govt’s decision to hike in the price of milk and failure of the govt to pay incentives to milk producers. Led by president of Hubballi-Dharwad BJP Raitha Morcha Ishwargouda I Patil, the activists handed over a memorandum addressed to the governor to the DC.

The memorandum demanded an explanation from the govt to the allegation that the amount allocated for payment of incentives in last budget has been diverted for other expenditures by the department of animal husbandry. The arrears for the last eight months are yet to be paid but when asked Karnataka Milk Federation officials point fingers at the cooperation department which in turn blames the finance department for the delay, the farmers alleged.

“The incentives have not been paid to milk producers and the drought relief is also yet to come.As many as 824 farmers have committed suicide,” the protestors said.
