As many as 60 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) have been identified for conversion from traditional system to digital system in the state under comprehensive support plan to strengthen cooperative society in the state.
This was stated by the director of Institute of Cooperative Management (ICM), Imphal, Khoichung Rangamlian during the valedictory function of 69th All India Cooperative Week Celebration, 2022 on Sunday.
The programme was organised by ICM, Imphal, Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Government of Manipur and Manipur State Cooperative Union, Lamphelpat at the premises of ICM, Imphal.
As a part of it, a seminar on the theme “Financial Inclusion, Digitization of PACS and Strengthening Cooperative Database” was also held.
Khoichung Rangamlian said that the present government created the ministry of cooperation last year so that the country would generate more income through this sector. Considering transformation of traditional to digital systems as key steps to strengthen cooperative society, the central government had initiated to digitise PACS, he added.
In Manipur too, the state government has started digitization of PACS and altogether 60 PACS have been identified and out of it, 20 PACS are already provided training related to operation of PACS through digital systems. This year training for another 20 PACS will be provided and next year another 20 PACS, he added.
He said that financial problems faced by farmers would be addressed to a great extent if PACS are being operated properly.
He said that there are around 12,000 registered cooperative societies but due to the absence of adequate knowledge on the concept of cooperative society, many of them are not able to achieve their target. However, many handlooms and handicraft sector and dairy farm based cooperative societies are functioning effectively in the state, he added.
During the function, former union minister of state, department of food processing industries, Th Chaoba Singh; president of Manipur State Cooperative Society, L Tompishak Singh; registrar of cooperative societies, department of Cooperation, Arambam Valentina; member governing council of NCUI, New Delhi, Jeena Potshangbam and president of Manipur State Cooperative Bank Ltd, P Ranjit Singh attended as chief guest, president and guests of honour.
