Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee commissions a high-tech Banglar Dairy facility in Nadia to bolster local production and farmer incomes.
West Bengal has taken a significant leap toward dairy self-sufficiency with the official commissioning of a state-of-the-art milk processing plant in the Nadia district. Inaugurated by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the facility is operated under the state-owned “Banglar Dairy” brand. This move represents a strategic infrastructure investment designed to modernize the region’s milk value chain and reduce dependence on outside suppliers, positioning the state as an emerging player in the competitive Indian dairy market.
The newly minted plant boasts an impressive initial processing capacity of 1.5 lakh (150,000) litres of milk per day. This scale is intended to accommodate the growing surplus from local cooperatives while ensuring that urban demand for processed milk and value-added products is met with high hygiene standards. By scaling up industrial throughput, the state government aims to stabilize consumer prices while providing a reliable processing hub for the district’s dairy output.
A primary objective of this project is the socio-economic elevation of rural producers. The facility is expected to directly benefit thousands of dairy farmers in and around Nadia by providing them with a steady, transparent market for their raw milk. During the inauguration, officials emphasized that the plant would help ensure “fair prices” for farmers, effectively cutting out middlemen and funneling more profit back into the pockets of rural families and smallholders.
Beyond simple fluid milk processing, the Banglar Dairy expansion is a cornerstone of a broader employment strategy. The plant is slated to create numerous direct and indirect jobs, ranging from technical plant operations and quality control to logistics and distribution networks. This holistic approach reflects a commitment to regional development, where industrial growth serves as an engine for local livelihood security and vocational training in the agribusiness sector.
The commissioning of the Nadia unit follows a series of recent upgrades to the state’s dairy infrastructure, signaling a robust phase of expansion for the Banglar Dairy brand. With modern machinery and increased storage capabilities, West Bengal is refining its ability to process a diverse range of dairy products. This facility stands as a testament to the government’s focus on food security and industrial modernization, ensuring the state’s dairy sector remains resilient in a rapidly evolving national economy.
