Dr. Prasadarao uses short films and 350+ YouTube videos to modernize livestock management for 40,000 farmers, bridging technology and rural self-reliance.

Dr. Madina Prasadarao, Assistant Director in Visakhapatnam’s Animal Husbandry Department, has pioneered a transformative approach to dairy farming extension by blending traditional veterinary science with modern digital media. Recognizing the limitations of conventional outreach, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Prasadarao leveraged his deep, three-decade-long commitment to rural communities to evolve into a multifaceted educator and filmmaker. His journey showcases a high-impact model for agritech adoption and knowledge transfer in remote farming regions.

The core of Dr. Prasadarao’s mission is economic empowerment and rural self-reliance. Having served in remote villages for over 22 years, he actively encourages farmers to maintain at least two milch cattle as a foundation for economic stability. His efforts have a tangible, structural impact, including establishing milk collection centers in hard-to-reach areas and facilitating the construction of permanent veterinary hospital buildings through successful collaborative projects involving panchayat, state, and central governments in Srikakulam district.

The crucial turning point came when he transitioned to digital content creation. Dr. Prasadarao began producing educational short films and videos, a move that drastically scaled his reach. To date, his portfolio includes six short films and over 350 YouTube videos covering essential topics such as disease prevention, advanced livestock management, and access to government schemes. These digital resources have not only empowered farmers directly but have also been integrated into official state-level training programs for professionals.

Beyond digital content, Dr. Prasadarao remains an active trainer and telemedicine pioneer. He serves as a resource person for key institutions like the State Management Institute of Livestock Entrepreneurship (SMILE) and the Regional Animal Husbandry Training Centre (RAHTC), delivering training to farmers, aspiring entrepreneurs, and animal husbandry assistants. Furthermore, he runs a free telemedicine service via social media, where he personally responds to over 100 farmer queries daily on platforms like WhatsApp, demonstrating an unprecedented level of real-time support.

Dr. Prasadarao’s innovative model, which successfully combines hands-on field experience with scalable digital media, has earned widespread recognition. He has received significant accolades, including the prestigious ‘Rythu Nestham’ award and the 2023 Best Field Extension Officer in the southern region award from the Union Government. His career illustrates how dedication, coupled with technological innovation, can effectively modernize the dairy supply chain by providing critical, actionable knowledge directly to the primary producer base.
