Governor Anandiben Patel highlights Uttar Pradesh’s dairy leadership and flagship scheme successes at Budget Session.
Uttar Pradesh has emerged as India’s largest milk-producing state, achieving a production output of 388.15 lakh metric tonnes in 2024-25, according to Governor Anandiben Patel in a recent address to the state’s Budget Session. This milestone positions UP at the forefront of the country’s dairy sector, reflecting sustained advances in rural production systems and milk value chains.
The governor underscored that the state’s dairy achievement is part of a broader pattern of excellence across national flagship government schemes. UP has consistently secured first or second place nationally in major programs owing to “planned efforts and effective implementation,” spanning financial inclusion, insurance enrollment, and housing initiatives.
In addition to dairy, Uttar Pradesh leads the country in several agricultural output categories, including sugarcane and sugar, foodgrains, mangoes, and potatoes, reinforcing its role as a key contributor to India’s agri-food economy. The dairy peak and crop performance together enhance rural livelihoods and strengthen the state’s agricultural footprint.
Governor Patel also highlighted UP’s performance in social and economic welfare schemes — such as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, insurance and pension enrollments, and Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana — reflecting broad public engagement and the expansion of financial inclusion across the state.
The address came amid lively political debate but reinforced a narrative of consistent progress in dairy and allied sectors. For international dairy stakeholders tracking India’s subnational production leaders, Uttar Pradesh’s output gains and flagship program performance offer insights into where dairy growth is scaling within Asia’s largest milk-producing nation
