A bold new vision from the Chief Minister seeks to transform the state into India’s largest dairy hub.
In a major announcement for the Indian agribusiness sector, Rajasthan’s Chief Minister, Bhajan Lal Sharma, has laid out a comprehensive plan to transform the state into the country’s leading dairy hub. Speaking at the Gau Mahakumbh in Jaipur, the CM detailed a series of strategic initiatives and financial schemes designed to bolster the state’s dairy industry. This ambitious vision is centered on empowering local farmers and cattle keepers, and it could fundamentally reshape the national food supply chain.
A central pillar of the plan is direct financial support for milk producers. The government has allocated a significant ₹500 crore under the Chief Minister Milk Producer Incentive Scheme, with a substantial portion of that—₹468 crore—already distributed to farmers through Direct Benefit Transfer. In addition to this, a new subsidy of ₹5 per litre has been implemented. These measures are designed to increase farmer income and provide a strong financial incentive to boost milk production.
The CM’s plan extends beyond just financial incentives. To further empower farmers and rural communities, the government has increased the ‘Kisan Samman Nidhi’ from ₹6,000 to ₹9,000. The state is also providing access to crucial financial services, with loan facilities being made available through the Gopal Credit Card. This comprehensive approach to financial support is aimed at increasing the economic resilience of farmers, which is a key factor in long-term dairy economics.
In a move to protect and promote cows, the government has allocated a considerable grant of ₹2,791 crore. A key component of this is a daily grant of ₹50 per cow for Gaushalas, which are registered cow shelters. This is accompanied by a ₹25 daily grant for small calves. Furthermore, the Nandishala Sahyogita Yojana has been allocated over ₹62 crore for infrastructure development at the Panchayat level, demonstrating a holistic approach to animal welfare and agricultural development.
Ultimately, this visionary plan showcases a clear government commitment to leveraging the dairy industry as a vehicle for rural prosperity. By combining direct financial subsidies, enhanced credit facilities, and robust support for cow protection, Rajasthan aims to become a model for agribusiness development. These steps will not only boost milk production but also create a more stable and prosperous environment for thousands of farmers, cementing the state’s role as a major player in the global dairy market.
