
The three-day Sensitisation and Capacity Building Programme, for Senior Officials of Dairy Cooperatives from different states, organised by the National Cooperative Dairy Federation of India Limited (NCDFI) in association with Sikkim State Cooperative Union (SICUN), was held at the conference hall of SICUN at Assam Lingzey today.
The training was designed to spread and develop both personal and organisational skills while fostering the collaborative spirit in the management of dairy cooperatives.
Dr Mangal Jit Rai, Chairman of SICUN, in his address emphasised the role of the sensitisation and capacity-building programme, highlighting that the initiative fosters a cultural exchange experience with collaboration among cooperatives and strengthens the movement.
Following this, Mr. Jiwan Sharma, General Manager of SIMFED, conducted a session on Sustainable Farming, Marketing Practices, and the Role of Cooperative Organizations in Sikkim.
Similarly, Mr. T.B. Ghatani, Managing Director of SMU, led a session focused on Organic Farming in Sikkim, particularly highlighting Organic Dairy Farming while discussing the challenges and opportunities associated with sustainable agricultural practices.
In addition, she emphasised that this year marks the International Year of Cooperatives, sharing its importance of fostering collaboration and economic resilience.
Additionally, Dr Tshewang Gyatso Bhutia, HOD Buddhist and Tibetan Studies, Namgyal Institute of Tibetology (NIT) Ecclesiastical Affairs Department Government of Sikkim, educated the participants on the Role of Spirituality in Building Resilient Cooperatives. He then shared the aspects of spirituality and shared insights on leading a disciplined life.
Various cultural performances were also showcased, followed by a felicitation ceremony for the participants.

A key highlight was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between SICUN and Assam Lingzey MPCS for mess and food operations.
