Punjab’s Mega-Mission 154 Blocks Host Milking Competition

Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian Launches State-Wide Initiative to Boost Dairy Income, Livestock Productivity, and Rural Livelihoods.

Punjab’s Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, and Dairy Development Minister, Gurmeet Singh Khudian, has formally launched the ambitious “Block Level Milking Competition – 2025-26.” The initiative, inaugurated at Pardeep Singh’s dairy farm in Sohana village, Mohali, marks a significant governmental effort to uplift the state’s vital dairy sector. The program is specifically designed to provide a critical platform for dairy farmers to showcase their highest-performing livestock.

The competition is structured for maximum statewide engagement and continuity. The minister announced that the events will be hosted on the second Monday of every month and will span all 154 blocks across the state of Punjab. This consistent, widespread schedule is intended to encourage the sustained adoption of modern animal husbandry practices and foster a culture of technical excellence across the grassroots level of dairy production.

Minister Khudian emphasized the strategic importance of the sector, stating that “Farmers are the backbone of Punjab’s economy, and the dairy sector has great potential to strengthen rural livelihoods.” He stressed that the competitions transcend mere prize-giving; they are fundamentally a mission focused on identifying, rewarding, and replicating the most effective livestock management strategies utilized by top producers.

The core objective of the state initiative is economic empowerment and sectoral sustainability. By actively encouraging the use of high-yielding breeds and the implementation of efficient management practices, the program aims to directly increase the income of dairy farmers across Punjab. The initiative, therefore, directly reflects Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s broader vision to empower farmers, promote allied agricultural activities, and secure sustainable economic growth for the state.

Attended by senior officials from the animal husbandry department and a substantial number of local dairy farmers, the launch signaled a commitment to fostering healthy competition within the industry. This competitive environment is expected to stimulate enhanced livestock productivity across Punjab, ultimately contributing to a more robust and modernized dairy ecosystem that benefits producers, manufacturers, and the state economy alike.
