The five labs—set up in Ludhiana, Patiala, Gurdaspur, Sangrur, and Bathinda—are equipped to detect common adulterants and assess overall milk quality. These centers will work under the regulatory framework of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), ensuring nationally aligned testing protocols and accuracy.

Punjab Animal Husbandry Minister S. Laljit Singh Bhullar emphasized that these testing facilities will not only serve government dairies but also help monitor private players in the sector. The move is seen as a crucial step to tackle rising concerns about milk adulteration and its implications for public health and the dairy economy.

Bhullar added that dairy farmers and consumers alike will benefit from this initiative. Transparent testing will help farmers receive fair prices for genuine, high-quality milk, while consumers will gain access to safer dairy products, fostering confidence in the state’s dairy chain.
