The 29th Annual General Meeting of the Sikkim Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union was held at the Community Hall, Jorethang on 23rd September 2024.

The Annual General Meeting was chaired by the Hon’ble Chairman of Sikkim Milk Union, Shri Yam Kumar Sharma. All the 18 Board Members including the Vice-Chairman of Sikkim Milk Union Dewan Rai, Chairman of SICUN, Dr. Mangal Jit Rai, Vice-Chairman SICUN, Shri P.P. Sharma along with the representatives from the Department of Cooperation led by the Registrar Shri Raj Pradhan and the Director, AH & VS Dr. Sanjay M. Gajmer were present in the Annual General Meeting. Presidents from 291 Milk Producers’ Cooperative Societies participated in the Annual General Meeting.

Welcome address was proposed by the Board member Shri Dinesh Chandra Dahal, President, Ridang Bajek Milk PCS.

Dr. T.B.Ghatani, Managing Director presented Audited Annual Report for the year 2023-2024. Balance Sheet for the year ended 31st March 2024 with cash and Bank Balance of Rs. 20,20,39,499/- was presented to the General body.

Sikkim Milk Union has become successful in regaining army contract including an additional 2 Army Units of Sevoke and Sukna Units consecutively for the second term. Presently Sikkim Milk Union is supplying milk to the 12 Army Units within and outside Sikkim. The annual turnover of Army market is Rs. 4358.88 (Rupees forty-three crores fifty-eight fifty-eight lahks and eighty-eight thousand). The statement of profit and loss account highlighted the details of income, expenditure and net profit.

During the programme milk price difference payment was also disbursed amongst the three highest milk cooperative societies from Gangtok, Namchi, Soreng, Geyzing and Pakyong Districts.

Farmer centric program such as facilitation of Bureau of Indian Standard Type-I Cattle feed, Area specific Mineral Mixture, fat and SNF boosting Samridhi Mineral Mixture, cattle insurance, encouraging young generation towards Dairy farming practices, utilization of government and private barren land for fodder cultivation, silage and hay making and delivery to the farmers doorstep on demand were discussed in order to address the challenges encountered by decreasing number of Dairy farmers.

The Managing Director also proposed the Budget for the next financial year 2024-25 with projected targes of annual turnover of 150 crores. Plans for strengthening ice-cream plant, taking over of Dentam Cheese Plant were highlighted.

Humble appeal was also shared in the Annual General Meeting by the Managing Director for improving productivity of the Dairy animals at the individual level as well as encouraging young generations towards dairy.

The Honnorable Chairman acknowledged the position and height achieved by Shri N.B.Pradhan, Dr. M.J.Rai and Shri Purna Prasad Sharma among the Gwala members.

Highlighted Sikkim Milk Union’s successive successful years and unwavering government support through Rs. 8/- kg of milk incentive, Gwala Diwas, Gwala Ratna Puraskar. He also mentioned the commitment of the Government for transport subsidy on cattle feed.

Honourable Chairman urged for discouraging local loose milk sales from the milk societies. He highlighted India’s future cooperative movement initiatives launched by the Union Cooperation Minister, Shri Amit Shahji on 19th September 2024 at New Delhi and anticipated support.
