KMF’s consumer-centric pricing move promises daily affordability and reduced waste in Karnataka.
The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has introduced new small-pack Nandini milk and curd priced at just ₹10, a move aimed at addressing everyday needs of consumers in Bengaluru and across Karnataka. The initiative was officially launched on January 24, 2026 by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah alongside a broader range of new dairy products, reflecting an effort to connect agricultural policy with consumer welfare.
Under the new scheme, 160-ml packs of milk and 140-ml packs of curd are available at ₹10 each, significantly smaller and more economical than the previous 200-ml formats. This pricing strategy is designed to make fresh dairy accessible to daily buyers, particularly individuals, students, workers in hostels, and small households where larger packs may go unused and spoil quickly.
KMF’s decision underscores a broader consumer-focused approach in the dairy sector, aiming to reduce food wastage and offer flexibility in daily shopping budgets. Smaller, affordable packs help households buy exactly what they need without the inconvenience of storing larger quantities in refrigerators, where dairy products can deteriorate if not consumed promptly.
The launch of the ₹10 packs was part of a larger product unveiling at the Vidhana Soudha, where KMF also introduced items like medium-fat paneer, high-aroma ghee, probiotic lassi, and dairy whitener. This expanded lineup highlights KMF’s strategy to diversify offerings and strengthen the Nandini brand’s presence across product categories, responding to evolving consumer preferences and market demands.
For the international dairy community, this pricing initiative is noteworthy because it illustrates how a major cooperative implements market segmentation and price innovation within a competitive dairy sector to support consumption, reduce waste, and sustain brand loyalty among price-sensitive consumers. Such tactics could be relevant for other developing markets grappling with affordability and dairy accessibility.
