PORVORIM: Stating that dairy farming is dying in the State, Members of the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday urged the government to take concrete steps to encourage youths to take up this occupation.
“Dairy farming is on the verge of collapse. We are totally dependent on neighbouring States for milk supply. Milk produced in Goa is not sufficient to meet the demands. I request the Minister for Co-Operation to meet the dairy farmers and address their issues. Government should take up the challenge to increase milk production,” Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said.
He further said that the government should provide all required assistance and incentives to encourage youths to take up dairy farming. “We receive our milk requirement from outside the state. If we come up with a thought process wherein the government considers setting up its own dairy farm then we can fulfill the demand as well as control the prices,” Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas said.
He added that there was a need to conduct audits of dairies in the state.
