Min defends govt’s decision on milk price

State animal husbandry and veterinary sciences minister K Venkatesh on Tuesday defended the state govt’s decision to hike milk and curds prices by Rs 4 a litre.

Speaking to reporters at Chamarajanagar, he said that govt took this decision to help the farmers.

Directions were given to all milk unions to increase the price of milk procurement by Rs 4 per litre and pay farmers to support their income generation.

There is no connection between the hike in milk prices and the implementation of guarantee schemes.

The govt increased milk prices to help the farmers, he stated. He condemned the BJP and other opposition leaders for making a hue and cry over the hike in milk prices when they are tight-lipped about increasing petrol prices, which is costing Rs 103 per litre now.
