Milma raises cattle feed subsidy to ₹300 per bag through March, cutting feed costs and supporting dairy farmers in Kerala’s cooperative milk sector.
Kerala’s Milma Begins Global Expansion with Gulf Dairy Exports

Kerala’s dairy cooperative hikes feed aid through March to ease cost pressures and sustain production.

Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (KCMMF), known as Milma, has announced a significant increase in its cattle feed subsidy aimed at relieving dairy farmers from rising production costs. The governing body approved an enhanced subsidy of ₹200 per bag of Gomathi Gold cattle feed effective from February 1 to March 31, 2026, as part of broader support measures for the state’s dairy sector.

This latest subsidy comes on top of existing support offered by Milma’s Thiruvananthapuram and Malabar Regional Unions, which have been providing a ₹100 per bag subsidy. When combined, farmers will now benefit from a total of ₹300 per 50-kg bag of cattle feed under the cooperative’s scheme, helping to dampen feed input prices.

Milma’s intervention translates to tangible cost relief: the effective price of cattle feed is now about ₹120 lower than 2019 levels, a critical buffer for producers grappling with elevated input costs and inflationary pressures. Silage and maize fodder are also being offered at prices about ₹2 below 2019 averages, adding incremental savings for dairy enterprises.

This feed subsidy boost is expected to be a major relief to struggling dairy farmers across Kerala, where high input costs have squeezed profitability and production margins in recent seasons. By reducing feed costs, Milma aims to help farmers maintain herd nutrition and milk yields while supporting the cooperative’s long-term sustainability.

The enhanced support underscores Milma’s ongoing commitment to farmer welfare and dairy sector resilience. It aligns with previous and broader cooperative efforts — including additional milk pricing incentives and other subsidies — that collectively seek to stabilize production, strengthen rural livelihoods, and sustain Kerala’s local milk supply chain amid cost challenges.
