Milk demand may rise 13% in wedding season

Demand for packaged milk in city would increase 13 % in coming weeks against a month ago amid a spike in purchases by hotels & households ahead of wedding season.

Daily sale of packaged milk by Indore Cooperative Dugdh Sangh is likely to touch 2.60 lakh litre as against last month.

“Milk demand is going up and is likely to rise further in the coming weeks due to weddings when bulk consumption happens.

We are anticipating at least 2.60 lakh litres a day of sales in the coming weeks,” said sangh CEO Dr R K Doorwar.

A hotelier Sulabh Puranik said, “Consumption of milk goes up in this season every year as milk-made sweets, desserts, and drinks get high on demand. We have also hiked our purchases by at least 5 to 8 per cent.” The consumption of milk by tea stalls and roadside eateries has also gone up. “Milk collection is high and demand has also picked up so there is no gap in supply. Instead, we are converting surplus milk into skimmed powder & butter,” said Doorwar.
