Mega Curd Plant Unveiled $11M Investment Boosts India Dairy

Karimnagar Dairy Inaugurates Automatic Curd Facility Built with ₹90.70 Crore JICA Aid, Powering Local Employment and Farmer Support.

A significant development in India’s dairy processing sector took place in Telangana with the inauguration of a new automatic curd plant at Karimnagar Dairy. The facility, a massive investment in value-added dairy manufacturing, was constructed at a cost of ₹90.70 crore (approximately $11 million USD). Crucially, this financing was secured through a partnership involving the Central Government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), highlighting the growing role of international development finance in modernizing India’s agribusiness infrastructure.

The inauguration event, which took place at the Karimnagar Milk Dairy Plant in Nalgonda village, was attended by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar. The Minister commended the Karimnagar Milk Producer Company Ltd (Karimnagar Dairy), noting its 27-year history and its substantial current operations. The dairy currently collects a massive two lakh liters of milk every day and reports selling an impressive 40 lakh liters of curd, demonstrating its dominant position in the regional market for fresh fermented dairy products.

Beyond processing capacity, the dairy is a critical engine for regional socio-economic stability. The Minister congratulated Dairy Chairman Rajeshwara Rao for the company’s profound local impact, which provides direct employment to 600 people and supports an estimated 5,000 others indirectly. Furthermore, the co-operative is directly responsible for supporting the livelihoods of an estimated one lakh dairy farmers, cementing its status as a vital anchor for the entire dairy value chain in the Telangana region.

Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar also used the platform to announce a major new scheme to benefit the wider farming community. The Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhanya Krushi Yojana will be implemented in four districts of Telangana (Gadwal, Narayanpet, Nagar Kurnool, and Jangaon), effective immediately. This scheme represents a considerable commitment from the Central Government, with ₹24,000 crores (approximately $2.9 billion USD) allocated annually for the next six years to support agricultural development and financial security across these districts.

However, the Minister also acknowledged a significant political challenge facing the successful co-operative. Bandi Sanjay Kumar stated that he was aware of attempts by “some in the government” to obstruct the expansion and distribution of Karimnagar Dairy Products. He publicly pledged to discuss the matter with the state government, strongly requesting them to cease any restrictive actions and instead ensure that the dairy company can expand further and continue serving the people and supporting its vast network of dairy farmers.
