Indian Income Tax raids on Malani Dairy Group seize gold and cash amid suspected dairy billing irregularities and tax evasion.
Major IT Raid Hits Rajasthan Ghee Trader, Gold & Cash Seized

Income Tax investigations into Malani Dairy Group spotlight alleged tax evasion and billing irregularities in India’s dairy supply chain.

Income Tax authorities in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, have launched an intensive investigation into a prominent ghee and dairy trader associated with the Malani Dairy Group, marking a high-profile enforcement action in India’s dairy sector. The multi-day operation began on January 15, 2026, and has involved simultaneous raids at multiple business and residential locations linked to the group’s principal — Ghanshyam Soni — and his associated firms.

On the third day of the investigation, officials uncovered approximately 3.5 kilograms of gold valued at around ₹5 crore and ₹35 lakh in cash from Soni’s premises and related sites. These assets were seized as part of efforts to trace unaccounted wealth, cash transactions and potential tax evasion linked to the operation of dairy products businesses, especially ghee wholesale.

Income Tax Investigation Wing teams from Uttar Pradesh and local Rajasthan units conducted coordinated searches across five locations, including residential addresses in Shastri Nagar, Mandore Mandi, Boronada, and New Power House Road, underscoring the scale of the probe. Alongside physical assets, officials have also confiscated computers, hard drives, mobile phones and digital storage devices to examine electronic evidence for undisclosed incomes and “unofficial transactions”.

Preliminary suspicion focuses on fraudulent billing practices and potential tax irregularities tied to dairy product distribution, with specific inquiries into the supply of “butter” into markets such as Kanpur and other states, though investigators have yet to publicly confirm the exact nature of alleged misconduct. Authorities are also scrutinizing bank accounts and safety deposit lockers belonging to Soni and his family.

The Malani Dairy Group — described on business listings as a major wholesaler of dairy products including ghee, butter oil and skimmed milk powder with turnovers reported above ₹500 crore — now faces heightened compliance and reputational scrutiny. For global dairy analysts, this enforcement action serves as a stark reminder of regulatory and tax risks within informal or opaque segments of dairy supply chains in emerging markets.
