The Maharashtra government has announced a one-month extension of its subsidy scheme aimed at benefiting milk producers, as reported in the media citing a recent Government Order (GO).

Effective until 10 March the subsidy scheme entails direct financial support of Rs 5 per litre to milk-producing farmers from the state government. This move comes as a significant relief measure for farmers engaged in milk production, regardless of whether they supply to private entities or cooperative ventures.

The allocated budget for this extended period amounts to Rs 230 crore, which will be deposited directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries. The scheme, initially launched on 11 January, was scheduled to conclude on 10 February but has now been prolonged, reflecting the government’s steadfast commitment to supporting agricultural communities.

The primary objective of the subsidy scheme extension is to provide substantial assistance to dairy farmers, thereby bolstering the dairy industry and sustaining livelihoods within the sector.

By incentivising milk production through financial subsidies, the government aims to ensure the continued growth and prosperity of those involved in this vital agricultural activity.

This initiative not only benefits individual farmers but also contributes to the overall development and resilience of the dairy sector in Maharashtra. The extension of the subsidy scheme underscores the state government’s proactive approach to agricultural welfare, recognizing the pivotal role of dairy farming in the state’s economy.

With this move, the Maharashtra government reaffirms its dedication to fostering a supportive environment for agricultural prosperity, emphasising its commitment to the sustainable development of the dairy sector. As the subsidy scheme continues to provide crucial support to milk producers, it is poised to make a tangible impact on the livelihoods of countless farmers across the state.
