
Kanpur: Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) has suspended its campaign against the local dairies for six months after negotiations held between the mayor and dairy owners.
The mayor in a meeting with the dairy owners here on Saturday told them that the campaign against them had been suspended for six months during which they would not litter cow dung near their dairies. Any violation would attract action against them.
Earlier, mayor Pramila Pandey had told them that cow dung choke drains and sewer lines for which the KMC had to spend a big amount to clean them.
When the mayor told the dairy owners that the KMC would now charge Rs 1200 per 100 quintal for lifting cow dung they said that such an action would shut down their business. They would not litter cow dung near their dairies, they said.
The mayor assured them that she would discuss the issue with the state government for allotting a permanent place for dairies. The additional municipal commissioner, veterinary officer and all zonal health officers were present in the meeting. The mayor had raided three big dairies in Ram Bagh area on Friday and seized about 54 cattle. She herself led the cattle catching campaign in the city.
