Kerala’s Milma Begins Global Expansion with Gulf Dairy Exports

Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, widely known as Milma, will start exporting a range of its dairy-based food products to Gulf countries from July.

The initial list includes Paneer Butter Masala, Instant Pulisseri Mix (traditional Kerala dish), Ready-to-Drink Palada Payasam (a sweet milk dessert), Flavored Milk, and Instant Milk Powder. The Lulu Group will handle distribution across its malls and retail outlets in the Gulf.

Milma, Kerala’s apex dairy cooperative, is also planning exports to the United States and the Maldives. The organisation aims to generate 1,000 crore rupees annually from exports. Ice creams in 15 different flavors, including stick varieties, are also being prepared for international markets.

Two new instant products — Butter Idiyappam (steamed rice noodles) and Ghee Upma (a savory semolina dish) — were introduced last month, with shelf lives of one year and six months respectively. Milma claims the products are free from chemical additives.

In the 2024–25 financial year, Milma reported total revenue of 4,327 crore rupees. The Thiruvananthapuram Regional Union contributed 1,269 crore rupees, the Ernakulam Union 988.87 crore, and the Malabar Union 1,622 crore. A total of 213.62 crore rupees was distributed to dairy farmers across these regions in the form of subsidies and incentives.

Chairman K. S. Mani stated that Milma’s focus remains on maintaining high quality in dairy production, expanding the product portfolio, and reaching new markets to drive revenue growth.
