Grassroots animal-husbandry camp in Akhnoor boosts farmer access to welfare schemes and strengthens dairy community outreach.
The Jammu & Kashmir Dairy Farmers Association (JKDFA) convened a major Pashudhan Awareness Camp – 2025 in Akhnoor, attracting roughly 400 dairy farmers from across the region—a strong turnout demonstrating rising engagement among producers in the Union Territory’s animal-husbandry sector. The event was led by Chairman Narinder Singh Bhau and President Sandeep Singh Chib, underscoring JKDFA’s organizational push to expand farmer knowledge and solidarity.
Government participation was central to the camp’s informational agenda, with Sanjay Gupta, Director of the Animal Husbandry Department, Jammu, attending as chief guest. Gupta detailed key government schemes aimed at dairy producers, spanning financial assistance, animal health services, breed improvement and livelihood enhancement, while encouraging farmers to leverage these resources for industry growth and resilience.
Departmental livestock officers Zafar Iqbal and Vinay Vishal also addressed participants, walking farmers through the practical procedures for accessing welfare programs and emphasizing the real-world benefits of such initiatives in improving herd health and economic returns. Interactive segments allowed livestock producers to voice on-farm challenges directly to officials, fostering dialogue and problem-solving that strengthened relations between the farming community and government agencies.
The camp, conducted by JKDFA spokesperson Inderjit Singh Salathia, drew broad participation from regional dairy leaders including Rashpal Singh Choudhary, Vikas Joly, and Amit Kumar, among others, reflecting the association’s diverse membership and commitment to inclusivity in outreach. Activities centered on awareness, capacity building, and empowerment to improve local dairy practices and support farmers’ economic stability.
JKDFA reiterated its mission to persistently advocate for producer welfare, deepen awareness of government supports, and strengthen the dairy farming ecosystem throughout Jammu & Kashmir by continuing targeted engagement efforts like this camp. Such grassroots initiatives are pivotal for mobilizing smallholder dairy producers and enhancing sector sustainability.
