Jaipur Dairy Announces a ₹2 Per Litre Price Increase Across All Saras Milk Varieties, Marking the 11th Hike Since 2017.
In a move set to impact thousands of consumers, Jaipur Dairy has raised the price of all Saras milk varieties by ₹2 per litre. The price hike, which became effective with the evening milk supply of August 25, follows a similar increase in August of the previous year. This latest adjustment highlights the continued inflationary pressures on the dairy economics and agribusiness sector.
According to Jaipur Dairy MD Manish Faujdar, the new prices for key products are now: Saras Toned (Blue) at ₹54 per litre, Standard (Green) at ₹60, Gold at ₹68, and Double Toned at ₹46. These new rates represent a significant increase for consumers who rely on the cooperative’s milk, which is a staple in the Jaipur and Dausa districts.
This is the 11th time that Jaipur Dairy has increased its prices since May 2017. Over this period, milk prices have surged by more than 42%. To put this in perspective, a litre of Saras Toned (Blue) milk, which was previously available for ₹38 before 2017, has now risen to ₹54, demonstrating a substantial and consistent upward trend in retail milk costs.
The new prices directly affect consumers in the Jaipur and Dausa districts, as these are the only two areas supplied by Jaipur Dairy. The cooperative currently distributes more than 1.16 million litres of milk daily across these two regions. The consistent price increases are a critical point for data journalism and for understanding the financial strain on households.
The price hike, which comes after a previous increase in the cost of Saras Ghee, highlights the ongoing challenges facing the Indian dairy industry. The decision by a major cooperative like Jaipur Dairy reflects the need to balance rising production costs with consumer affordability, a difficult equation that is being played out across the international dairy community.
