New Sardar Patel Dairy Federation and major plant expansions set to transform milk sector economics and empower farmers.

In a landmark move set to significantly reshape India’s agribusiness landscape, Union Minister Amit Shah recently launched the Sardar Patel Cooperative Dairy Federation and the Kutch District Salt Cooperative Society in Anand, Gujarat. These pivotal initiatives are designed to foster an organized system for milk procurement and enhance the salt sector. The overarching goal is to ensure fair pricing for producers and promote a sustainable circular economy, promising substantial benefits for countless farmers across the nation’s vital dairy industry.

The newly inaugurated Sardar Patel Cooperative Dairy Federation aims to meticulously replicate the unparalleled success model of Amul, India’s renowned dairy cooperative. By establishing a streamlined and efficient system for milk procurement, the federation seeks to guarantee equitable pricing for dairy farmers, providing them with greater stability and income security. This strategic expansion of cooperative principles is poised to revolutionize the dairy economics by empowering producers and fostering a more resilient supply chain.

The event in Anand also featured a series of significant infrastructure inaugurations and foundation stone layings. Minister Shah virtually unveiled expansions of the Dr. Verghese Kurien cheese plant and a state-of-the-art chocolate plant, collectively valued at ₹365 crore, signaling major investment in dairy processing. Additionally, he inaugurated the new office building of the National Cooperative Dairy Federation of India (NCDFI) and a Ready-to-Use Culture (RUC) Plant, while laying the foundation stone for a new NDDB headquarters, reinforcing India’s commitment to modern dairy development.

These launches coincided with two notable occasions: the fourth foundation day of the Ministry of Cooperation and the 150th birth anniversary year of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a visionary leader in India’s cooperative movement. During his address, Minister Shah underscored the Ministry of Cooperation’s vital role in revitalizing over 8.4 lakh cooperative societies nationwide. He emphasized the critical importance of transparency, adoption of new technologies, and member-centric practices for the enduring survival and competitiveness of cooperative models in the modern economy.

Ultimately, these strategic initiatives in Anand reflect a broader national vision for strengthening India’s cooperative sector, particularly in key areas like dairy and salt production. By empowering producers, ensuring fair practices, and investing in advanced infrastructure, the government aims to drive sustainable growth, improve livelihoods, and reinforce India’s position in the international dairy community. The focus on cooperatives remains central to the nation’s strategy for equitable agricultural development and rural prosperity.
