Key Delegation Wraps Up Week-Long US Tour, Deepening Collaboration in Dairy, Corn, and Sustainable Livestock Feed Innovation 🤝.
The Compound Livestock Feed Manufacturers Association (CLFMA) of India successfully concluded a major week-long delegation to the United States, marking a significant commitment to advancing US-India agricultural and livestock collaboration. Led by Chairman Divya Kumar Gulati, the visit, hosted by the U.S. Grains Council, focused on assimilating global best practices. The delegation engaged directly with industry leaders and farmers to explore cutting-edge techniques in sorghum (jowar), corn, and dairy production, reinforcing India’s strategic push for sustainable feed innovation.
The knowledge exchange commenced in San Antonio, Texas, with technical sessions featuring experts from major U.S. institutions like Kansas State University. Discussions centered heavily on global sorghum markets, grain standards, and the role of sorghum in various animal diets, including poultry, swine, and pet food. Subsequent on-farm visits in Amarillo, Texas—including operations at Joe Rohrbach Farms and a deep dive into the supply chain with Bunge—provided invaluable, firsthand perspectives on efficient planting and harvesting operations for feed ingredients.
Moving to Iowa, the delegation thoroughly explored the state’s integrated “grain-to-feed” ecosystem. Key stops were made at various points along the value chain, including POET Bioprocessing facilities for insights into ethanol production, the Gold Eagle Feed Mill for feed manufacturing expertise, and the large-scale Dutchland Dairy in Rolfe. These tours offered critical exposure to the advanced technologies and scale necessary for high-efficiency dairy farming practices and feed optimization in a modern environment.
The Iowa program concluded with high-stakes policy engagements that underlined the long-term trade and technology focus of the visit. The CLFMA leaders held a strategic meeting with the Governor of Iowa at the State Capitol, followed by discussions with the Iowa Agriculture Secretary and the Iowa Corn Growers Association. These interactions are designed to build upon existing political frameworks, specifically the CLFMA/Iowa MoU (September 2024) and the Maharashtra/Iowa sister-state agreement (August 2025), to foster joint research and technology adoption.
CLFMA Chairman Gulati stressed the critical nature of this collaboration for India’s future market competitiveness, citing key financial data. He noted that India’s animal feed market, valued at an estimated USD 14.34 billion in 2024, is projected to swell to USD 21.02 billion by 2034. The knowledge transfer gained from U.S. counterparts is deemed paramount to efficiently tackle persistent challenges such as feed shortages and productivity gaps, which must be addressed to ensure the long-term sustainability and growth of India’s livestock sector.
