Heritage Foods hails landmark Union Budget 2026-27 as transformative for dairy productivity, veterinary capacity and rural livelihoods.
India’s Union Budget 2026-27 is being hailed as a turning point for the dairy sector, with industry leaders welcoming policy measures aimed at strengthening livestock, veterinary services and dairy value chains. Heritage Foods Ltd Executive Director Brahmani Nara described the budget as a strategic milestone that goes beyond funding numbers to focus on empowering dairy farmers and enhancing rural resilience.
A central highlight for the dairy economy is the expansion of veterinary infrastructure, including new colleges, hospitals, laboratories and networks of para-veterinarians designed to bridge the critical gap in animal health services. This expansion aims to address chronic shortages in veterinary capacity — a constraint that has historically limited milk yields, animal health outcomes and overall sector productivity.
The budget also introduces enhanced credit-linked subsidies that industry leaders say will improve access to affordable financing for livestock investments. Heritage Foods noted that for its more than three lakh farmer partners, this support could significantly boost breeding outcomes and milk yields, as well as facilitate investment in feed, breeding stock and dairy infrastructure at the farm level.
Beyond specific dairy-focused measures, broader animal husbandry and allied sector support in the budget reflects policy alignment with rural income growth and allied agri-value chain expansion. National reforms have increased allocations to livestock initiatives and promise a more robust ecosystem for integrated dairy development, entrepreneurship, and value-added milk processing capacity.
Heritage Foods has signaled its intention to collaborate closely with the government to translate budget allocations into on-the-ground improvements across the dairy sector, reinforcing India’s position as a global dairy player. Industry reactions overall point to a budget that could meaningfully enhance dairy productivity, farmer profitability and long-term competitiveness of organised milk producers and cooperatives.
