KMF to sell Nandini milk in UP from today

In a major step towards environmental sustainability, Karnataka Milk Federation’s (KMF) flagship brand Nandini has initiated the use of biodegradable corn-based milk packet covers.

This pilot project has been launched in Hunasanahalli village, located in Kanakapura taluk of Bengaluru South district.

The initiative aims to address the environmental harm caused by traditional plastic covers, which have long posed disposal challenges for urban local bodies. Bamul (Bangalore Urban, Rural and Ramanagara District Cooperative Milk Union Ltd), a key KMF affiliate, has taken the lead by trialling compostable milk packets that naturally decompose in soil.

Despite regulations against single-use plastics, milk distribution has largely continued using polythene packets that take over a century to break down. To counter this, Bamul has procured two lakh biodegradable covers made from corn-based material, sourced from Chennai.
