Demanding a fair price in milk procurement and the removal of the cattle’s law, the Gujarat farmers poured milk on the roads and left their cows at a collector’s office on Saturday.
A video of this incident was shared on Twitter by retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Surendra Pratap Singh. He wrote that the farmers were pouring milk on the road in Gujarat to stage a protest to demand fair prices in milk production.

In a separate incident, the cattle farmers accused that the Gujarat government had promised about Rs 500 crore assistance for their cows, but none of the cowsheds got a single rupee. Because of this people left the cows at Collectorate Kacheri.

Different groups of Gujarat farmers have been protesting for several days against the new law of the Gujarat government. More than 20,000 cattle farmers held a protest at Shertha in Gandhinagar against the Gujarat Cattle Control (Keeping and Moving) in Urban areas Bill, 2022. The bill aims to regulate cattle in municipal corporations and municipalities in the state.
A farmer leader said that they were demanding the removal of the law in the coming session of the state assembly.
On September 16, Gujarat’s Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested former Chairman of the Mehsana District Milk Producing Federation, Vipul Chaudhary, for allegedly misappropriating Rs 750 crore pertaining to the dairy.
This was not the first case when the Gujarat farmers were pouring milk on the road. In July 2017, they poured thousands of litres of milk on the road demanding a waiver of agriculture loans.
The Gujarat dairy farmers have also been demanding that milk should not be procured from the persons who were working against the farmers. The farmers were not happy with the presidents of the dairy corporative societies in the state.
In July 2021, the Maharashtra dairy farmers also poured milk on the roads against low procurement rates of cooperative societies and private dairies.
